Board of Adjustments

The purpose of a Board of Adjustment Member is to consider applications for variances as outlined in the Becker County Zoning Ordinance and to act upon all questions as they may arise in the administration of the Becker County Zoning Ordinance, including the interpretation of the Zoning Map, and to hear and decide appeals from the review of any order, requirements, decisions or determinations made by an administrative official charged with enforcement of this Ordinance.

The Becker County Board of Adjustments is made up of five members and two alternatives. Three of the members must be from the unincorporated areas of the County and one member must be a member of the Planning Commission. Neither elected officials of the County nor employees of the Becker County Board of Commissioners may be a member of the Board of Adjustments. A quorum shall consist of three members.

Each year (January 1), the appointments of new members shall be made by the County Board of Commissioners. Each member is appointed to a three-year term in a rotation. An appointment to fill a vacancy shall be only for the unexpired portion of the term.

The Board of Adjustment members will receive a per diem as allowed by the County Board of Commissioners for each meeting, tour or special meeting attended. The current per diem rate is $60.00 per meeting. Mileage is reimbursed, at the current County rate, for mileage to and from the meeting place and for those members that drive their vehicle on the tour date.

Regular meetings will be held at least once a month. This meeting is held the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The tour date is held the Thursday before the regular meeting at 7:00 am. On the tour date, the files are reviewed, and then the Board will visit each property.
