Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program
In winter of 2011, Becker County established an Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force made up of local organizations, stake-holders and
interest groups. In the summer of 2012, this Task Force began work on many projects. Click the links below for a summary.
This handbook is available for resorts, hotels and businesses to display to patrons. The handbook contains valuable information
about the threat of AIS and what must be done to stop their spread.
In 2012, Becker County participated in a volunteer watercraft inspection program. The purpose of this program was to survey
and educate boaters about Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Boat inspectors were trained by the MN Department of Natural Resources
(DNR), and were posted at public boat accesses according to a schedule. Our program completed 2,863 boat inspections this summer
with 814 volunteer hours.
This kit contains a program outline and visual aids for teaching school groups about Aquatic Invasive Species. The program
is presented by a Becker County AIS Task Force member. To schedule a presentation for your classroom, email Moriya Rufer.
