Becker County Aquatic Invasive Species
Handbook for Visitors & Residents
In winter of 2011, Becker County established an Aquatic Invasive Species
Task Force made up of local organizations, stake-holders and interest
groups. In the summer of 2012, this Task Force worked on many projects. See below for a summary.
Volunteer watercraft inspector program
In 2012, Becker County participated in a volunteer watercraft inspection
program. The purpose of this program was to survey and educate boaters
about Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Boat inspectors were trained by the MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and were posted at public
boat accesses according to a schedule. Our program completed 2,863 boat
inspections this summer with 814 volunteer hours.
