Licensing Fees :
A $50.00 licensing fee must accompany your child care application. The fee covers your initial licensing application. To start the background checks, you will have to pay a fee of $25.00 for your background study plus $10.00 for each additional background study for family members (everyone in the home 13 years of age and older) and your emergency substitutes, background study fees are not to exceed $50.00 total per license. These fees are non-refundable.

Keep in mind this is a business expense, so for taxation - you can count the fees against the child care income you are paid. Another fee is the Fire Marshal inspection of which $50.00 applies. The only acceptable method of payment is a money order (which is made out to the DPS Fire Marshal). The licensor will help you complete the request to send to St. Paul Fire Marshal's office for the inspection. Once this is mailed out, it could take as long as 2 months to get an inspection. The inspector will phone you, generally with a short notice, to schedule your home inspection.
