  • DWI Court Team Attends Operational Tune-Up Training

    On June 28 and 29, 2018, the White Earth Nation/Becker County DWI Specialty Court team attended the National Center for DWI Courts MN Operational Tune-Up Training in Bemidji, MN.  The multidisciplinary team consists of the judge, prosecutors, probation agents, licensed chemical dependency counselors, compliance officer, law enforcement, and specialty court coordinator. The team strives to continually improve the quality of our program and is committed to providing our participants with the tools and support necessary for them to change their behavior, improve their lives and productively reengage in our community.

  • Board Denies Strata's CUP for Gravel Operations Near Long Lake

    The Becker County Board of Commissioners unanimously supported the recommendation of their Planning Commission to deny the request by Long Shore Development for a Conditional Use Permit to allow for construction and operation of a sand and gravel pit, with associated processing of mined material near Long Lake. The applicant had request the Board table the application. That request was also denied.

  • Strata Requests Tabling, PUD Documents Available For Public Viewing

    The County Commissioners are scheduled to consider the Planning Commission's recommendation for denial of Strata Corporation's Conditional Use Permit (CUP) Request at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5th. Strata Corporation, in conjunction with Long Shore Development, LLC, has requested that Becker County temporarily table all further action on their Conditional Use Permit application. Public comments on any issue are encouraged during the Board's 8:20 a.m. Open Forum agenda item.   • Notice - Top 3 Paid Base Employees

    MN Statute 471.701 SALARY DATA: A city or county with a population of more than 15,000 must annually notify its residents of the positions and base salaries of its three highest-paid employees. This notice may be provided on the home page of the primary Web site maintained by the political subdivision for a period of not less than 90 consecutive days, in a publication of the political subdivision that is distributed to all residents in the political subdivision, or as part of the annual notice of proposed property taxes prepared under section 275.065.

  • Minnesota Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Counties in Regard to Public Versus Private Audits

    The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled in favor of counties in regard to public versus private audits. The decision affirmed that the Court of Appeals' decision from earlier this year, which said that because the State Auditor's Office retains significant duties and responsibilities in connection with audits of Minnesota counties, the law passed in 2015 allowing counties to pursue required audits by either the State Auditor's Office or a private Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm does not violate the Separation of Powers Clause.

    The court's decision stated that:  "Because the duties of the State Auditor are germane to the operation of state government, the Legislature did not violate the Single Subject Clause, Minn. Const. art. IV, § 17, in enacting Minnesota Statutes § 6.481."

    The court did not address the argument concerning "core powers," because it was not necessary to rule on that issue to decide the case. Press release...

  • McDonald Appointed to County Attorney Position

    Brian McDonald will soon become the new Becker County Attorney. McDonald was appointed by the Becker County Board Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of Tammy Merkins who was recently named a District Judge. McDonald joined the Becker County Attorney's office as an assistant attorney in early 2013. McDonald has also worked for the Mahnomen County Attorney, a local law firm and as a clerk for a district judge. McDonald will officially become Becker County's attorney upon Merkins departure later this spring.

  • Human Services Unit Receives State Recognition for Timeliness Rate

    Becker County Human Services was informed by the MN Dept of Human Services (DHS) that the Income Maintenance Unit has met the timeliness rate goal of 96% or higher in both SNAP Expedited & 30-Day Processing of application processing for the full year (Jan-Dec 2016), as well as the first three quarters (Jan-Sept 2017) of the current year.  DHS has provided Becker County Human Services with a certificate of congratulations for their efforts. The Becker County Board also expressed their thanks and congratulations at the December 19th board meeting for a job well done. Congratulations, Income Maintenance staff for your hard work!

  • Important Requirement for Tab Renewals and Title Transfers

    Effective January 1, 2016 you are required to provide proof of insurance (company name, policy number and policy expiration date) for all motor vehicle and motorcycle renewals. In addition you must also provide this information for all motor vehicle and motorcycle title transfers.

Many residents have reported receiving unsolicited mailings (example) that are attempting to charge money for something you can obtain for FREE. The office recommends you ignore mailings such as these.
